PNG is a lossless format — every pixel is stored exactly. This is ideal for logos, screenshots, and graphics with transparency, but wasteful for photographs. Converting a photo from PNG to JPG at quality 82% typically produces a file 60–80% smaller with no visible difference in a browser or on screen.
Note: if your PNG has a transparent background, converting to JPG will replace the transparent areas with a solid white background, since JPG does not support transparency. If you need to preserve transparency, keep the PNG format or convert to WEBP instead.
