Break-Even Calculator
Calculate contribution per unit, break-even sales volume and the whole units needed to cover fixed costs. Includes a worked example and CSV export.
How to use break-even calculator
- Enter values from a consistent reporting period, using one currency.
- Select Calculate and review the labeled result.
- Copy, print or download the results as CSV.
Formula and assumptions
Break-even units = fixed costs / (unit price - variable cost). Whole units are rounded up; revenue is whole units multiplied by price.
Worked example
Fixed costs of 1,000, a price of 30 and variable costs of 12 give 55.555556 continuous units. Sell 56 whole units for revenue of 1,680 to cover costs.
Limitations and troubleshooting
Single-product, constant-price model. Use costs from the same period and currency. Capacity constraints, taxes, changing prices and a mixed sales portfolio are not modeled.
Empty, negative and nonfinite inputs are rejected. Monetary outputs retain your input currency; no exchange rates are applied. Results are estimates, not accounting or investment advice. Inputs are processed locally and are not sent to analytics.

Frequently asked question
What happens if unit costs exceed the selling price?
There is no finite break-even point under these assumptions; the calculator returns an error.
